SAD DAY FOR MSC

I woke up seeing the sunlight coming in through the gaps of my window curtain on the morning of July 14, 2009 which brought me a bit of hope that I won't be seeing rain.

I wasn't even out my bed yet when I got a text message from Ate Josie asking me if I have any U.S. Dollar bills around (that I don't ) that I was willing to sell. That was when (like a hard blow on my chest) it reminded me that Ate Josie and Angie were bound to go to the U.S. that day!

My thought for a bright, sunny day almost melted in an instant. Even if I was literally being drenched at that moment by the fully risen sun, it felt like all its warmth just suddenly faded away. My mind was racing. I kept thinking of what the choir would be without them around, the Kerygma Papuri Music Ministry and simply but most importantly... their presence.

Tatay Boyet and I picked Ate Josie and Angie, along with other significant companions from their place. After a nice, hearty lunch at Kenny Roger's in SM, Sta. Mesa, we talked and talked, joked around and even sung a couple of songs in the van, but deep inside I know that tension was growing on each and everyone as we neared our destination. Even the sky went dark all of a sudden as if on cue. So much for my hope for a sunny day, I thought.

Just seeing the airport facade from afar made my heart beat a little faster. I then tried to psych myself, "You've done this before, it's going to be a blur once we get there." And there it was! Right after spotting a perfect space to park on, we all scrambled to get the luggage, looked for the right entrance and embraced each other so hard that I didn't even care if their backs would break.
Then we said our "goodbyes". It was swift as expected, hard and sad. I felt a lump in my throat. I hid my eyes behind my camera and called on them for one last capture through my lens... And they were gone...

ANGIE AND JOSIE'S LAST SUNDAY MASS IN THE PHILIPPINES

Sunday, July 12, 2009 was a memorable day for MSC.

It was when tears welled up from the eyes of almost all of the members when Angie sung her solo part of the song "Huwag Kang Mangamba". We were already used to hear her sing this song, but at this particular Sunday service was different. It was the last time all of us we would have to hear heart-warming voice in person.

I bet many of the people in the congregation who saw us wondered why the group was very emotional that day.

The choir will certainly miss this mother-daughter tandem!

IT'S A SURPRISE!!!

Last night, after a lot of hiding and closed-door plannings, the Surprise Farewell Party for Ate Josie and Angie has finally come to pass.

The Tramway Garden Restaurant at Timog Avenue, Quezon City was the best choice of our distinguished party organizers. It was a sumptuous dinner buffet indeed! I felt the warmth of the love from each and every member of MSC for Ate Josie and Angie in spite of the rain of immense proportions pouring outside! The reservation for a function room was a necessity so that all sixteen of us, attendees would be able to enjoy the intimacy of this melancholic and yet happy sending off.

THE MECHANICS:
Two unsuspecting but kind-hearted individuals (Ate Josie and Angie)
A "bogus debut party" that Angie was made to believe that she was requested to sing for the debutante. Being the generous person that she is, she agreed.
The stage-mother, PA and no. 1 fan of Angie, Ate Josie, who would go through great lengths just to give her utmost support for her daughter.
A room filled with well wishers for the two stars of the night...
Top it off with a buffet of different delicacies...
Voila! An instant surprise party that hopefully will not be forgotten!

SOPHIA CASSANDRA'S FIRST BIRTHDAY

On July 5, a function room of Jollibee SM Valenzuela Hypermarket was filled with family and friends of the loving parents of Sophia Cassandra Laforteza to celebrate her 1st Birthday.

MSC attendees on this special occasion were Ate Lulu, Tatay Boyet, Jaypee, Jayvee, Ryan, Ivan and Kuya Arnel. But the one specially invited was Lulu's baby, Juliana.

Congratulations Gerry and Apple! MSC wishes all the best for Casey! For sure, she will have a bright future ahead because of your care and support!

LAST PAPURI-KERYGMA FEAST

The second to the last Kerygma Feast with Ate Josie and Angie was already stressful for me, thinking that it was the last time I would be able to have a chance to sing with them in a not so conventional and "Choir(ish)" manner. I couldn't concentrate! But the latest one was far more worse! I came from Pampanga the night before after a birthday party of a sibling then I had to rush to the Valenzuela Convention Center to attend to such an event.
I kept on fumbling with the lyrics of the songs! More so, I was so engrossed on thinking what will I be without them! Insecurity was already on the verge of pouncing on me and I couldn't bear it!
But God was so good that He gave another reason for us to be together in Worship! And all other negative feelings I had before the event melted away after...

ARNEL'S BIRTHDAY

On July 7, our very own Kuya Arnel celebrated his 39th birthday. No frills, no grand celebration, just a simple gathering with family. So don't worry, MSC. You're not missing out on a lot!

May you be happy always! Best wishes!
